WHAT IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

An instructional software is a software that was used back in the 1960's and 70's as a tutoring tool for students to assist in increasing their learning abilities/capabilities . It has now evolved into a software that incorporates some or even all of the five functions for assisting students to learn more effectively. It includes drill and practice , tutorials, simulation, games and problem solving. These type of software are highly effective and makes learning more fun and even easier. These software also enhances the the instructional methods used within the learning process.
This type of software tool is highly useful, suitable and of great relevance to the educational fraternities /institutions as it :

• Makes learning easier and more effective.
• It motivates the students and increase Long term memory
• It integrates both the objectivist and constructivist concepts into the learning and teaching process .
• It lessens the work load for the teachers and makes the teaching process a little easier.

The Student Information System (SIS) also known as student information management system (SIMS, SIM), student records system (SRS), student management system (SMS) or school management system (SMS) is a software application used by educational institutions to manage their student data. It provides capabilities for :

• entering student tests /assessments via electronic grade book
  
• building student schedules
  
• tracking students attendance
  
• Handling course management, scheduling, personnel records grades/comments,room/resource management etc.
• It's also useful in the running of complex enrollment reports , admissions, course schedules and much much more ..... student related data needs.

According to Wikia education this(SIS) system has many great advantages within the education system/establishments such as:

It allows quick and easy accessible flow of information

It provides teachers/administrative staff with the necessary /useful tools to automate daily routine of simple tasks

It makes daily/routine tasks easier/simple

Saves time as it allows prompt access to a variety of student data

It allows parents quick and easy communication with their children's teachers/school administration.

So you see the advantages have already shown the relevance , suitability and usefulness of such a software within the education system/institution. Both parents and teachers as well as students all benefit from this system. The parents and teachers are able to keep track of their students /children in order to be aware of their progress in school. Parents are more involved as they receive data about all aspects of their children's education. Teachers receive automated grade books , reports , links to parents etc while the students receive access to assignments and grades . It makes the workload and life lot easier for everyone involved.

The website Superkids software review shows a listing of different types of software tools that can be used to enhance educational learning . I'm going to discuss the :

1. Relevance,
2. Suitability
3. Usefulness of one of these software tools.

The software tool called Study X - short for study anything is a program that allows you to create your own digital/printable flashcards,work sheets ,multiple choice/fill in the blanks tests. It can be used for all subject areas and can be used by both students and teachers. This software is of great relevance to both students and teachers as they can both use it to suit their educational needs. The students can study and review questions /answers for their weekly or end of term tests or just for their own personal self testing .

The teachers can plan their lessons and tests using the software via the multiple choice /fill in the blanks tests and with the use of flash cards to aid in teaching their lessons. So I'm sure you can see its suitability to both teachers and students as well as its relevance and also its usefulness. It enhances the learning abilities/capabilities of the students hence this can be seen as one of its uses. It also has a social networking component in which all Study X users can share their data with each other. This of course is a type of sharing that can cause each person to learn from one another which enhances the learning abilities of students vastly. This software tool has proven to be highly effective, efficient and a great asset as an educational tool for enhanced learning.
